Every year thousands of families prepare for fall with a trek to the mall, various outlet stores, as well as the big box stores to stock up on back to school supplies and clothing for their kids. Although I hated spending half a day in the Reebok outlet store with my mom and sisters trying on new sneakers, to this day I remain programed to update my wardrobe and get a few new “fun outfits” for fall.
That must be why, this time of year, I find myself scrolling through pages of Amazon thinking about how I can update various things in my home, or supplies that I use with my dog or at work.
With back to school shopping in mind, I have assembled a few of my absolute favorite dog supplies that you might want to check out. Just to make this fall extra exciting, one lucky reader is going to win one of my favorite things.
Keep reading to find out how that winner could be you!
1) Biothane Leashes. If you read my article a few months back on finding the perfect leash (you can read that article HERE), you already know I’m a big fan of biothane leads. These things are easy on the hands and even easier to clean if you find yourself caught in the rain, mud, or snow. As an added bonus, they are super strong. Just this past week I found myself in need of something to help me move a small pile of firewood from one place to another. In a pinch and feeling industrious, I tied up a huge bundle of wood in my biothane leash and effortlessly moved it to its new location (putting my dad and sister’s measly 3-4 pieces at a time to shame). Even being used for that silly purpose, the leash didn’t retain a single splinter or show any signs of wear. Can you say the same for your nylon leash? I doubt it. Biothane also comes in some awesomely bright colors pretty much guaranteed to brighten up the impending winter months. You can find some awesome ones HERE. Don’t worry, if bright colors aren’t your thing, nothing beats a classic black biothane leash.
2) Kuranda Bed. These cot style beds are amazing, especially if you have a dog who likes to chew up their bedding. A favorite of shelters and dog kennels, these beds are nearly indestructible and can be used indoors or out to provide orthopedic comfort for your dog. My own dog, who is a long-haired breed, would often get too hot in his bed and scrunch up all the bedding to one side to get off of it. Ever since we got the cot, he seems much more comfortable due to the airflow underneath him. You can use them with or without a pad on top and the company even makes cots that are made to fit inside of wire crates (they have shorter legs than the standard version). You can see all their beds, made at various levels of indestructible, at kuranda.com.
3) Dog first aid kit. While no premade first aid kit is perfect, there are some decent kits available for the busy person without time to assemble their own from scratch. The most important thing is that you have a kit before you need one. A good first aid kit should have, at the minimum, gloves, forceps, gauze, non-adhesive pads, self-adhering bandage (sometimes called vet wrap), a Triangular Bandage (which can be used as a muzzle), as well as hydrogen peroxide, antiseptic, and a cold compress. I like the contents listed in the Adventure Medical Kits Adventure Dog Series available through Amazon.com. Again, the most important thing is having one! So if you don’t have one yet, don’t wait!
4)New Zealand Deer Velvet Oral Drops Wellness Formula For Dogs & Cats. These oral drops, applied just once a day to your dog’s upper gums, can save you the headache of brushing your dog’s teeth and help maintain a beautiful smile all the same. This all-natural product claims to reduce plaque and tartar by killing oral bacteria and a few of our trainers absolutely swear by this stuff. I’ve recently started using it on my own dog (admittedly, not every day like the instructions say to) and I am already impressed. Of course, depending on what you feed your dog, their age, genetics, and other factors, brushing and getting professional dentals from your veterinarian may still be required but regular use of this product may help cut down the need for those things significantly. You can find them HERE.
5) Tags for Hope. These dog ID tags are ADORABLE. I cannot tell you how often my dog gets compliments on his. The reason? It looks like a New Jersey state drivers license! Aside from just being cute, these tags can hold a wealth of information including medical alerts/allergies as well as multiple phone numbers or need-to-know facts about your pet. To top it all off, the company also donates a portion of proceeds to help dogs in need! You can check out their website TagsForHope.com.
